Sometimes, the need for a particular IT service may be relatively small but important. This is often the case for servers: a company may not necessarily need more than a few servers, but they can be vital for business.
However, the purchase and maintenance of servers is not a simple process. Even if there is only one server, there are many things to consider when purchasing it: fire safety, licensing, backups, the server components themselves, antivirus, electricity, air conditioning, server monitoring, communications links – and, of course, the time spent purchasing and maintaining servers, salaries and incidentals, competence and training… The list is long.
Convinced by expertise and service quality
Understanding the amount of work required, Toshiba Tec decided to outsource part of its server needs to Itaito. Toshiba Tec offers its customers a private cloud and needs its own testing environment. The need for server capacity was not great, only one server at a time, but that is what made it a good target for outsourcing: the investments required for doing it in-house would have been too large compared to the benefits.
“We at Toshiba Tec are experts in printing, and hosting servers is not our core competence. We went looking for a suitable partner and ended up discussing with Itaito based on recommendations we received,” says Tom Martikainen, Solution Specialist at Toshiba Tec.
“Itaito spoke the same language as us. Their experts can adjust to the customer’s level and explain what it is about,” Martikainen continues approvingly. “Itaito undoubtedly has excellent experts, but it’s especially valuable that they are also able to communicate well with the customer.”
Server capacity scaled according to needs
Another of Itaito’s advantages was being able to scale services efficiently according to changing needs. Right now, the need is small, but it will increase in future. Itaito was able to develop a service tailored to Toshiba’s needs, where server capacity can be conveniently increased with one e-mail message, even at less than 24 hours’ notice.
“From the very beginning, our server environment has been designed to be scalable. Now that it exists, adding servers is easy and fast through our own contact person,” Tom Martikainen says, adding that he is satisfied with Itaito’s agile service: “They have always handled requests smoothly, often even faster than we expected.”
Purchasing servers could not be much easier: one monthly fee covers all the services, and there will be no unexpected hidden costs.
Martikainen was also happy about how quickly the servers were made available: “The deployment of the servers went incredibly well. The environment was set up both for our own use and for our customer in less than a week – even faster than initially agreed! I couldn’t have wished for a smoother project.”
